Garbage and Bulky Trash Pickup
The city of Dallas Sanitation Department – District 4 is responsible for garbage, recyclable and bulk trash collection in Prestonwood West.
Garbage – The 90-gallon trash receptacles are picked up in the neighborhood once weekly on Thursday from alleys or on the curb for streets that have no alleys, which includes the west side of Cedar Creek Canyon; south side of Richwater; north side of Fallsview and Still Forest. Trash pick up for the sub-associations east of Campbell is on the same pick up schedule, with the exception that the patio homes, garden homes and town homes Village on Preston use standard 33-gallon containers rather than the larger wheeled 90-gallon containers. Trash containers can be put out on Wednesday Night for pick up Thursday morning, and the Dallas City Code specifies that the containers must be removed from front curbs by nightfall on Thursday.
Recycle debris is also collected on Thursdays and must be put out for pick up by 7:00 a.m. Recyclables include plastic, aluminum, steel, and aerosol containers along with clear, brown and green glass. Recyclables are to be placed in the blue wheeled containers or blue translucent bags .
Bulky Trash -- is picked up once a month and includes tree limbs, branches, bagged leaves and other landscape debris. Bulky trash includes old appliances, furniture, mattresses, etc. The city does not pick up construction materials such as lumber, sheetrock, concrete, bricks, roofing and fencing materials, but the city does have a cost-plus program to pick up those items and residents may call 214-670-8613 to arrange for such a pick up.
The city
eliminated warnings and grace periods and now issues citations for bulky trash
put out on curbs earlier than the Thursday before the pick up week. The minimum
fine for the violation is $175.00. The association places signs throughout the
neighborhood the week before pick up alerting residents to the pick up date the
following week. Pick up schedules are also published in every issue
of the Westwords newsletter.

Brush and bulky trash left on the curb for an extended period of time attracts rodents, blocks sidewalks and becomes an eyesore that detracts from the appearance of the community and residents are urged to follow the preceding schedule and comply with the rules.
