In
1992, the 2-page mimeographed PW newsletter was little more than a listing of
baby sitters and local children offering to do lawn mowing. It was transformed into
a 4-page printed Westwords newsletters carrying useful information
about the associations’ rules, regulations, the ongoing work of the board, dues,
architectural standards, TV antennas and other matters of general interest. The
4-page newsletter had four advertisers and the revenues helped pay for the
printing. In 1993, the newsletter was expanded to eight pages. In 1995, it
grew to 12-pages with six advertisers. In 1998, Westwords became a
3-color newsletter and in 2000 the newsletter grew to 16-pages with 13
advertisers and since 2006, the newsletter is printed in full color. The newsletter has received acclaim from the homeowner association
industry, city of Dallas officials and other HOAs. Westwords is
published three times a year and 2008 marks the 17th year of
continuous publication. The newsletter’s success is attributed to editor and
publisher Richard Brown who has drawn on his 40+ years of experience in
advertising and public relations in making Westwords a much sought-after
HOA newsletter.
While Westwords regularly receives letters, phone calls and personal visits from residents who are pleased with the newsletter, there are always some who disagree with the publication’s content. Westwords is intended to provide a forum for comment and views on issues of importance and interest to residents of PW. Readers are encouraged to comment on subjects published in the newsletter by writing to the editor. Just send letters with return address, telephone number and signature to: Editor, Westwords, 5812 Richwater Drive, Dallas, TX 75252.
