Directory
For the past 15
years, a directory of homeowners in PW has been published. In addition to an
alphabetical listing and a listing of residents by street addresses, the
directories contain useful information including important emergency telephone
numbers, a map of the community and useful miscellaneous information. The
directories were published annually until 1998 when it was decided to publish
directories every other year because it became increasingly difficult to get
volunteers to collect and computerize the information and have the directory
printed every year.
The directories have always listed only homeowners west of Campbell Road because it was begun on a small, informal basis by a group of homeowners living west of Campbell, long before the sub-associations were created. In 1993, the Prestonwood West board took over the directory, and ads were sold to offset publication expense beginning with the 1995 edition. That same year, PWMA board members, representing sub-associations east of Campbell, polled their memberships to determine if they wished to be included in future directories. The result was unanimous. The sub-associations chose not to be included because they didn’t want the vast exposure and most of these groups compiled their own listing of residents.
The current neighborhood directory, covering the years 2007-08 will soon be replaced by the 2009-10 version. Prestonwood West resident Christine Hitchcock has taken over the responsibility of gathering the data collected by Block Captains and James Simmons computerizes the information for printing. PW president, Richard Brown, then takes the data, proofs it against Excel's records, arranges for advertisers, prints the directory and distributes it to residents.
Block captains play an important role in gathering information for the directory. This step is made more difficult because so many residents are away from home when they come calling. Block Captains also asked for a home e-mail address, which is very important for the association's E-Mail Alert System that alerts residents about any issue of importance in the neighborhood.
The volunteer directory team is very grateful for everyone's cooperation when they contact you for listings in the directory.
