Crime

Prestonwood West lies within two of the North Central Police Department’s crime reporting areas identified as 6000 and 6069.  These two areas cover all of Prestonwood West but also include parts of Bent Tree, Preston Trails, the growing retail along Preston Road and Summerside along with the two apartment projects on the eastern end of the Prestonwood West community, Preston Villa and Summer Villas.  While the number of criminal incidents on Prestonwood West streets is low, it is always a concern.  But crime in and near the two apartment projects continues.  A recent 1-year study of all criminal incidents reported in PW, identified 86 percent occurred in and around the apartments.  Preston Villa Apartments has 176 rental units, and the Summer Villas Apartments has 460 rental units.

Crime Alert Hotline – Spurred on by a brief “smash and grab” crime spree in the neighborhood during summer 2001, the board created a Crime Alert Hotline in which signs are placed throughout the neighborhood urging residents to call the hotline telephone number.  Upon calling, a recorded message is heard with information about criminal activity in the neighborhood.  The signs are put up only when there is significant criminal activity to report.  Watch for the signs and when you see them, call the hotline 972-337-5354 to listen to messages that will keep you up to date on crime in Prestonwood West.  Board member Steve Toback is responsible for the hotline program.  Call him (972-931-9317) if you notice any suspicious or criminal activity in the neighborhood.

E-Mail Alert System – This new program is another way to curtail crime in the neighborhood.  Click on it (in the navigation bar at the left) and read all about it on this website and be sure to register your e-mail address with our e-mail administrator at admin@prestonwoodwesthoa.org
